General Notes

Continuation of the position will be determined by the success of the program launch. Work schedule includes on-call during evenings, weekends, and days off throughout the week. Applicants must provide demo MP3 files with at least two produced radio features and one reported feature. Purpose

To further the mission of KUT as a source for news and engagement by working with the host and producers to produce a signature daily news program. To conceptualize and execute news elements for broadcast, online and social media.

Essential Functions

Book, Produce and Edit interview segments, news segments and audio elements. Creates, coordinates, writes and produces original productions, segments, daily promos. Researches topics and themes to write scripts, line copy, and develop show content for Host. Works with Host and creative team to develop novel and innovative ways to present content online, on social media and on air. Works with Hosts and creative team to design overall sound and image of program, the appropriate mix of sound elements, and ensures that on-air product is up to broadcast standards before it leaves the studios. Aggressively identifies, selects and books celebrity, expert and other guests; including pre-interviews, background research and questions. Works to ensure the consistent flow of communication among program staff and news staff; Works with digital media editorial staff to review and produce audience feedback for programming. Interfaces with on-air personalities, engineering staff, marketing/advertising staff, talent and artists. Make public appearances at events promoting KUT Radio or its outreach activities. Participate in fundraising as assigned.

Licenses: Class "C" Operator's Driver's License. Applicant selected must provide a current three year Driving Record from the current state of residence. If not currently a Texas resident, must obtain a Texas Driver's License within 30 days after entering Texas as a new resident.

Required qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Radio/Television/Film, Communications, Journalism or related field. Two years of professional experience reporting and producing news. Experience meeting strict deadlines and reporting under strict time limits. Knowledge of the operations of public radio local and national news. Demonstrated ability to meet multiple tight daily deadlines with strict time limits. Excellent verbal, writing, editing, and audio/digital production skills. Must be able to demonstrate you are creative, self-directed and talented audio producer. Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate. Preferred Qualifications

At least 5 years full-time broadcast reporting and/or full-time production experience on daily local or national public radio program. Demonstrated ability to conceptualize news coverage for broadcast in creative or innovative ways. Superior production skills including demonstrated ability to use Adobe Audition and mix own stories for broadcast under tight daily deadlines. Knowledge/understanding of social media as journalistic tool. Ability to report live on-air under short notice. Spanish speaking skills.
