Additional Information

Purpose

To provide animal care support sanitizing animal equipment and caging in the cage wash area of the facility. To provide care for laboratory animals, relating to animal health and environmental conditions, with specific instructions as to procedures and methods.

Essential Functions

Direct animal husbandry and care. Clean cages, pens and animal housing. Maintain and sanitize animal rooms, equipment and facilities. Observe animals for signs of disease and/or illness, maintain records and files. Operate cleaning and sanitation equipment, such as cage and bottle washers and autoclaves. Fill drinking bottles with fresh water and cages with bedding. Perform routine checks on auto watering systems. Process and set up incoming animals. Other duties as assigned.

Other related functions as assigned.

Required qualifications

Experience following basic work instructions. High School diploma or GED. Successful completion of work steps physical abilities test.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in care and handling of laboratory animals. Experience in careful food preparation for animals. Experience with equipment used in working with laboratory animals. Experience in sanitation of housing and facilities to prevent infections and disease. Demonstrate punctuality, good attendance record, careful follow through as instructed and flexibility.
