Additional Information

Purpose

Develops and maintains software to directly support the ITS Networking group's task of managing and operating the University's campus and residential networks, and supports Networking's 24x7 operations.

Essential Functions

Work with a team of developers to design, program, and integrate software and systems to support the University's network operations. Configures, installs, integrates, and operates servers and services using commercial, open-source, and custom software solutions. Configures, installs, integrates, and operates network equipment (e.g. routers, switches, firewalls). Supports 24x7 operations and participation in the Networking group's issue escalation path.

Required qualifications

Advanced knowledge of network systems and technology typically evidenced with a Bachelor's degree in related field or equivalent work experience in computer science, electrical and computer engineering, or network systems and technology. Experience developing software in Linux or other open source environments utilizing Perl, C/C++, Expect, MySQL, Javascript, and XML. Experience designing and coding interactive web user interfaces using AJAX, JSON, or similar frameworks. Experience installing and configuring services (e.g. web, databases, remote access, etc.) on Linux or other open source platforms. Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in computer science, electrical and computer engineering, or equivalent work experience in network systems and technology. Experience developing software in Linux or other open source environments utilizing Perl, C/C++, Expect, MySQL, Javascript, and XML. Experience designing and coding interactive web user interfaces using AJAX, JSON, or similar frameworks. Experience installing and configuring services (e.g. web, databases, remote access, etc.) on Linux or other open source platforms.
