Additional Information


Will support the UT Austin community in software development projects by providing technical solutions for departments and colleges when budget and staffing constraints limit their internal resources. Assignment will focus on migrating UEX onto Canvas.

Essential Functions

Gather requirements, document business processes, perform appropriate system analysis and document project plans and tasks for migration of business processes from one learning management system to another. Implement, test, and deploy solutions to support migration to now learning management system, including integration into existing systems. Provide support for solutions, including maintenance, updates, and small enhancements as required. Provide consistently excellent customer service to all customers.

Required qualifications

Possesses and applies comprehensive knowledge of application programming or analysis. Demonstrated ability to analyze, test, and debug complex code. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Strong interpersonal skills. Strong organizational skills with attention to detail. Skilled at training technical staff. Demonstrated ability to work effectively, both independently and collaboratively, in a team oriented environment. Considerable experience in systems design, analysis and programming. Experience in the LAMP (Linux, Apache, MySQL, Python or PHP) environment. Demonstrated initiative, recognizing what needs to be done and responding in an effective and timely manner. Demonstrated ability to be flexible and creative when presented with challenges. Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines with deliverables and communications. Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field. Over 2 years demonstrated experience with MySQL with the ability to write SQL queries. Over 2 years of experience with Linux (preferably RedHat) in editing/configuring system and server files, finding and reading log files. Ability to work at the command-line, and write shell scripts (or Perl/Python shell scripting). Demonstrated experience with Python 2.7. Demonstrated ability in parsing/writing XML and JSON data, and grasp of REST API concepts. Experience in higher education. Experience with learning management systems such as Blackboard or Canvas. Experience with Natural and webagent.
