General Notes

Schedule and work area are subject to change as needed. Occasional weekends and after hours work. Carry pager 24 hours a day/7 days a week. Respond to after hours emergencies as needed. Must provide an acceptable 3 year driving record and maintain an acceptable driving record throughout employment. Candidate selected must provide verification of education and/or experience.

Additional Information


To oversee and direct the activities of Building Leaders and Building Attendant II's. Maintain buildings for cleanliness and safety for staff and students. Perform supervisor duties related to building service activities on the university campus.

Essential Functions

1) Responsible for the supervision of building leaders and building attendants. Establish work schedules. Inspect buildings to maintain proper standard of cleanliness and appearance. Maintain and distribute materials and supplies for custodial work. Implement and conduct safety, chemical, compliance and equipment trainings for custodial staff. 2) Prepare and administer staff evaluations. Meet with staff on a monthly basis. Conduct one on one meetings, address absenteeism, investigate and write corrective actions as needed. 3) Inspect buildings for repair and input work orders, requisitions, and ensure that all custodial work orders are completed in a timely and efficient manner. Introduce and implement new methods and new materials for cleaning and maintaining buildings. 4) Perform assessment and routine inspections of staff performance, cleanliness, make ready, fire and life safety, and inspect for maintenance repairs. Review work of staff engaged in custodial and related activities. 5) Oversee the setup of events and rooms for the summer conferences and other events as needed. Ensure staff are trained to move students as needed at all hours for concerns such as health, pest, or as requested by a manager. 6) Interface with Residence Life staff and maintenance staff on building needs and student related issues. 7) Responsible for hands on training of chemical and equipment. Oversee and ensure that all new staff are trained according to the new employee training. Ensure all staff have compliance training up to date. 8) Diversity/Professional Development: Work in a diverse environment. Encourage, support, and promote diversity initiatives. Promote professional development of self and all staff to improve knowledge and work skills through ongoing training and workshops, including monthly safety training.

Licenses: Class "C" Operator's Driver's License. Applicant selected must provide a current three year Driving Record from the current state of residence. If not currently a Texas resident, must obtain a Texas Driver's License within 30 days after entering Texas as a new resident.

Required qualifications

Demonstration of the competencies listed in the Competency Profile typically acquired through: a High School Graduation or GED. Two years of supervisory experience in custodial maintenance work or related management activities. Knowledge of cleaning and janitorial materials, equipment and methods. Licenses: Class "C" Operator's Driver's License. Applicant selected must provide a current three year Driving Record from the current state of residence. If not currently a Texas resident, must obtain a Texas Driver's License within 30 days after entering Texas as a new resident. Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

More than 4 years of experience in supervising or managing building cleaning and custodial personnel. More than 6 years of knowledge and experience with custodial equipment, custodial maintenance, carpet and floor care equipment. Experience in identifying maintenance and repair needs and an understanding of maintenance terminology. Experience in setting up for various conference programs and for scheduling of staff to accommodate conference program. Certification by the National Executive Housekeepers Association. Demonstrated computer skills using MS Word, Excel, and UT Mainframe. Experience housing and servicing students and conferences in residence halls. Demonstrated ability to receive, respond, and follow through with verbal and written work related instructions from supervisors and requests from customers and co-workers. Bilingual in English and Spanish.
