This position is responsible for the management of all University Libraries facilities and security programs.
Hires, trains, supervises, schedules and evaluates the Libraries Facilities and Security staff. Supervises 5 full-time staff. Represent University Libraries and the Facilities and Security Department on committees and task forces as assigned. Serves as liaison to and supervises work done by the University's Office of Environmental Health and Safety. Ensures compliance with safety and building code standards and specifications. Develop short and long-term policy plans for managing and maintaining facilities, furniture and equipment owned by the library or within the library; regularly inspecting building, grounds, and equipment for needed repairs, maintenance, and improvement and report needs to Deputy Director of Libraries. Oversees opening and closing procedures for all library facilities. Oversees the control and distribution of all building keys. Prepares and monitors budgets associated with assigned maintenance projects including preparing and maintaining accurate reports on the activities of the facilities department and provide regular reports on the status of expenditures and projections of future costs. Responds as Libraries primary first contact for emergencies and after-hour calls relating to the Libraries facilities and safety. Provides leadership in development and updating emergency and disaster plans for the Libraries. Coordinates the logistics of set-up for library related events. This may include the movement of furniture or equipment and the set-up of chairs, sound equipment, etc. Coordinates space needs for staff to ensure optimal use of space and facilities. Coordinates library mail delivery and courier services on campus. Serves as liaison between UTA Facilities Department to address repairs and maintenance needs. Facilities Department on building renovations and modifications and coordinates the selection and purchase of library furniture and equipment. Identifies and initiates maintenance and repairs to Library buildings. This may include entering work orders, requesting quotes/bids/proposals for services and supervising the progress on projects. Supervises work done by University and external vendors/contractors who service and maintain Library buildings, equipment, vehicles and grounds; ensures immediate and efficient response to facilities issues to prevent loss or damage to the Library's collections and other resources. Coordinates building security and employee/patron safety programs for all University Libraries facilities; develops, implements, and coordinates safety and security policies and procedures; and coordinates security rounds and staff emergency response training. Works cooperatively with Facilities and Security Supervisors to manage facilities issues related to building security and employee/patron safety. Primary liaison with the UTA Police Department on all library security matters. Coordinates activities of Public Safety Officers in University Libraries facilities with the UTA Police Department.
The position ensures that library facilities enhance the University's mission and goals and provides leadership for creation and maintenance of safe, well-operating, and clean library facilities within a 24/7 environment. Other functions as assigned
Master's degree in related discipline. Three years of military, law enforcement, security, facilities, or operations experience. Five years of related environment experience in military, law enforcement, security, facilities, or operations with at least one year in a supervisory capacity. Effective communication/presentation skills and speaking/writing abilities. Ability to work a flexible schedule to include evening/weekend hours as needed. Prior Facilities experience. Experience with safety and security management programs. Prior work experience in a university or library environment.Documented experience in Project Management Supervisory and training skills. Work experience in Architecture, Building Construction, Construction Project Management, or related field. Use and training in AutoCAD and familiarity with engineering specifications and standards.
