Purpose

An experienced professional who applies, develops, and documents data storage best practices, and deploys new storage technology with an in depth understanding of the subject matter. Technical leader with a high degree of knowledge in the overall storage field and recognized expertise in NFS storage.

Essential Functions

Participates in activities that lead to formulating strategies and administering policies, processes, and resources for the data storage infrastructure. Scope includes data storage best practices for installation and maintenance, capacity increases, high availability, encryption, storage automation, performance optimization, backup and recovery, storage delivery protocols, and transparent storage maintenance. Designs and implements solutions to data storage problems of diverse scope in multiple areas, including data analysis to identify root cause and contributing factors. Is the primary staff resource for the support or leadership of multiple technical projects or teams. Active member of multiple functional teams, including Storage, Backups, and Virtualization. May have accountability for setting expectations, performance management, and evaluations for a small number of staff related to projects. May have accountability for setting expectations, performance management, and evaluations for vendors and providers. Provide Tier III support per request from campus constituencies.

Required qualifications

Demonstrated extensive experience in leading the support and forecasting resource needs of heterogeneous storage platforms and OS clients, including EMC, DDN, Hitachi, NetApp, Compellent, Red Hat Storage Server, Windows OS, Red Hat Enterprise Linux OS, and Solaris OS. Demonstrated expert knowledge in heterogeneous, integrated enterprise storage platforms and infrastructure including block and NAS storage, fiber channel fabric, storage requirements for virtualization and database, data backup and recovery, data security. Demonstrated expert judgment in selecting methods, techniques, and evaluation criteria for obtaining optimal storage infrastructure performance and uptime. Ability to make technical presentations to teams, focus groups, management, and governance committees as required. Five or more years of professional experience. Demonstrated experience in leading diverse technical projects, including assigning tasks and selecting team members. Excellent customer focus and interpersonal skills. Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

Red Hat Linux expert, experienced with Red Hat Storage Server high availability and GlusterFS. Hitachi Data Systems expert with demonstrated experience with HDS high availability configuration. Seven or more years of related professional experience. Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent experiences. Systems programming expert that can enable automated storage administration. Data security expert that can design comprehensive solutions in a complex multi-vendor storage infrastructure. Graduate degree in Computer Science or related field.
