Under general supervision, this position is responsible for leading technical staff and projects to design and deploy Enterprise MySQL infrastructure for mission critical websites, hosting services, and applications at the University of Texas at Austin.
The primary function of this position is to lead technical staff and projects to document, plan, and execute strategic projects and operational activities for Enterprise MySQL databases. Audit hardware, database, application, service logs, equipment loads, and Enterprise MySQL performance metrics with the aim to improve the reliability and performance of systems. Manage Enterprise MySQL security, backup, and disaster recovery environments to maintain appropriate data confidentiality, integrity, and availability. Maintain and share knowledge of current database technologies. Maintain and share knowledge of emerging database technologies. Prepare and maintain database documentation including disaster recovery materials, licenses, warranties, contracts, inventories, life cycle plans, project plans and customer road maps. Ensure compliance with University policies and IT configuration guidelines. Communicate effectively with customers and colleagues through phone calls, voice mail, email, presentations, and publications.

Experienced professional with demonstrated ability leading technical staff and projects to design , deploy, and administer MySQL database infrastructure for mission critical websites, hosting services, and applications. At least 5 years of experience developing and deploying MySQL infrastructures supporting high traffic, mission critical websites with in-depth understanding of Linux-based webservers and load-balanced application delivery environments. Technical leader with a high degree of knowledge in the overall field and recognized expert in architecting and administering MySQL infrastructures necessary for highly redundant, available, and scalable websites. Requires demonstrated ability to administer replicated or clustered databases, web services and other components . Must be able to independently troubleshoot MySQL, Linux, web server, load balancer, storage, and network problems in a highly complex environment without supervision. Must write documentation for a technical audience describing problem, solution, and work efforts in various scenarios. Excellent customer focus and interpersonal skills. Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
Experience with Nginx, VirtualMin, GlusterFS, Cassandra or MySQL Enterprise Edition administration, monitoring, and troubleshooting. Experience with Python programming language. Experience with data Extract Translate and Load (ETL) processes and procedures. Experience with MySQL databases running in virtual (ESX) environments.
