Additional Information

Purpose

Provide database architecture and administration for Oracle database environments supporting critical University business functions. Use skills and experience to work on complex technical problems by using or developing advanced concepts, with a full understanding of industry practices, campus policies and procedures.

Essential Functions

Provide primary support for Oracle databases and applications as required by environment. Assist with architectural strategy for database environments. Create database designs and implementations that support academic and business objectives. Define efficiency improvements and implementation of database policies and procedures for data security and integrity across heterogeneous database platforms. Define, implement, and test disaster recovery and business continuity plans and technologies to ensure resilience of database services. Ensure that database performance is aligned to University business processes and usage peaks. Communicate information and issues clearly and succinctly with both technical and non-technical personnel.

Required qualifications

Minimum 8 years of experience in database architecture, design, data modeling, security, performance, monitoring, and tuning in an enterprise Oracle ERP environment. Demonstrated experience designing and implementing Oracle RAC, disaster recovery and HA configurations such as clustering, replication, mirroring and log shipping with Oracle and other relational database platforms (MS-SQL, MySQL). Record of database server performance tuning, database-related component tuning, product-specific database request tuning, database normalization, and benchmarking for multiple relational database platforms. Ability to define architectural and data model strategy for database design. Extensive SQL experience, both query and design (DML and DDL). Record of successful collaboration with software development groups including database setup, optimization, and operations support. Record of identification, design and implementation of process automation with scripting tools such as Python, Perl, shell, and PL/SQL. Project management skills and ability to lead large, complex technical projects. Record of developing project charters, timelines, deliverables, resource allocation, and task delegation. Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

Able to design storage and network architectures to support highly complex Oracle based ERP environments for mission critical enterprise applications. Experience with support of data warehouse and data repository environments. Experience managing all aspects of ETL between multiple database environments. Authors publications or leads technical seminars as a subject matter expert in professional journals or conferences. Experience with RedHat or Oracle Linux. Demonstrated ability to manage a technical team of database administrators. Graduate degree in computer science or related field.
