This is a non-exempt, 32-hour a week position. Interviewer training and participant recruitment and interviewing will take place over approximately a 3 month period. Working hours will vary day-to-day depending on circumstance but will generally be between 9am and 2pm. Work on weekends will be required every other week. This position is expected to begin between 8/1/2014 and 8/31/2014.
Under the direct supervision of the Proj Mgr and Associate Proj Mgr, serve as an on-site interviewer for a research team studying postpartum contraceptive access among women in the Austin area. This position involves recruiting and conducting interviews with up to 250 women in a hospital setting.
Following strict ethical and human subjects guidelines, recruit women as study participants from a hospital in the Austin area. Perform scripted, in-person interviews with participants in English and Spanish, and enter data, including typed comments on participants' responses, into a computerized database. Develop rapport with women from a variety of ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds. Assist the Project Manager and Associate Project Manager in the management, dispensing, and accounting of subject incentive fees. Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with hospital staff. Communicate regularly with Project Manager and Associate Project Manager, including responding to feedback regarding data quality. Comply with all State and University Policies.

Bachelor's degree in Sociology, Psychology, Social Work or related field or equivalent experience. Oral and written fluency in both English and Spanish is required. Applicants must be able to interview research participants in both Spanish and English, and, write paragraph-length responses to questions in both languages. Strong conversation skills in both English and Spanish are needed to answer study-related questions for participants and hospital staff. Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
At least one year of experience in the field of research preferred.
