Purpose

Exploitation and analysis of remotely sensed (airborne and space-based), geospatial data for a variety of applications and contribution to the Geospatial Laser Applications and Measurements group research tasks and objectives associated with laser ranging technology in the Signal and Information Sciences Laboratory.

Essential Functions

Employ computational solutions for airborne and space-based remotely sensed data product production, evaluation and application. Participate in field tests that support data acquisition for geospatial research and/or instrumentation calibration and validation.

Required qualifications

Bachelor's degree in engineering, computer or information science, geoscience or other applied sciences. Demonstrated ability and proficiency in working with remotely sensed data, data products, and GIS applications. Willing to work with new technologies, be highly organized, and capable of planning and coordinating multiple tasks and managing their time. Demonstrated ability with software packages such as ArcGIS, ENVI and QT Modeler for research projects. Attention to detail, effective problem solving skills, and excellent judgment. Ability to work independently with sensitive and confidential information, maintain a professional demeanor, work as a team member without daily supervision and effectively communicate with diverse groups of clients. Regular and punctual attendance. U.S. Citizen. Applicant selected will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information at the level appropriate to the project requirements of the position.

Preferred Qualifications

Advanced coursework, graduate degree or significant experience related to remote sensing applications (orbital mechanics, geodesy, geospatial statistics, GIS, climatology, meteorology, geology, ecology, and hydrology). Demonstrated experience and familiarity in working with lidar point clouds, data registration and terrain analysis. Knowledge of data exploitation methodologies for photon-counting, full-waveform and discrete return lidar systems. Applicant should have prior experience in geospatial application solutions using novel algorithm techniques and working knowledge of processing, exploitation and dissemination workflows for airborne and space-based lidar data production. Demonstrated excellent interpersonal communication skills. History of publication in relevant journals and/or industry conferences. Proficiency in Matlab, C/C++ and Unix shell scripting. Cumulative GPA of 3.0 with a 3.5 in major coursework or higher.
