Provides curatorial support for the Ransom Center's extensive theater and performing arts holdings, including promoting access to, and use of, the collections and interpreting them for the Center's varied audiences.

Essential Functions

Engages in a variety of interpretive activities (writing, exhibitions, speaking, and teaching) that promote a greater appreciation for the Center's theater and performing arts holdings and participates in development activities in support of the collection. Provides specialized reference support for researchers working in these collections and supports research service operations as a member of the public services staff. Has primary responsibility for collection care of the Center's theater and performing arts materials and works with conservation staff and technical staff in determining treatment and reformatting priorities. Supervises one part-time librarian. In collaboration with cataloging and digital services staff, promotes enhanced access to the collection by consulting on cataloging and digital services priorities and projects, including grant-funded initiatives. Selects materials to expand and strenghten the theater and performing arts holdings. Refines and interprets policies for the development of these collections, taking into account existing strengths, trends in scholarship and theater history, as well as classroom use of collection materials. Represents the Ransom Center within professional and scholarly communities related to theater history, drama, and performing arts collections and serves as a liaison with the University of Texas Department of Theater and Dance.

Required qualifications

Ph.D. in theater, English, or American literature (or related discipline) with a strong record of, and demonstrated evidence of, scholarly publication. Demonstrated experience working with theater history or dramatic literary archives as a curator, librarian or researcher. Record of active participation in scholarly or professional organizations at the national or international level. Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

Master's degree in library/archival studies. Demonstrated expertise in British or American theater history, practice, or criticism between the eighteenth and twenty-first centuries. Demonstrated experience in collection development. Demonstrated experience working collaboratively with conservators, librarians, development staff, donors and archivists. Demonstrated understanding of the appropriate roles of digital surrogates in a research environment and familiarity with trends in digital librarianship. Superior oral and written communication skills. Supervisory and exhibition experience.
