Purpose

Serves as the Executive Director of the Warfield Center Gallery, supports the Director in shaping the Centers vision, identity, and programming, participates in and co-coordinates strategic planning, and sustains relationships with students, faculty, university administration, staff, and community members.

Essential Functions

Oversee the organization, research, curation, and design exhibitions by faculty, alumni, and students out of Black Studies along with visiting art exhibitions and programs in collaboration with WCAAAS Director, WCAAAS Consultation Committee, and department chair. Work with programming coordinator and curator to organize and direct educational and community programming related to exhibitions. Work with graphic designer, Director, and curator to facilitate all printed material for exhibitions and publications. Help create events initiated by faculty or staff. Manage the planning and installation of all exhibitions, including work with curators, artists, and lenders to identify works of art to be included, administer loan form agreements with lenders, organize shipping, write and administer all visiting artist contracts, create installation and deinstallation schedules, work with preparator to hire installation crew and define duties, prepare condition reports as needed, work with UT insu Oversee programming, operational budgets with Director. Create, monitor operating budget with accountant. Track, reconcile expenditures. Write, administer visiting artist contracts and loan agreements, with legal. Create, facilitate operational policies. Direct, supervise WCAAAS staff. Oversee website content and maintenance, with Director and Development. Oversee programming documentation and image archives. Help maintain gallery structure. Join leadership on donor, prospect visits. With Director, identify, meet with potential donors. Participate in gallery events, attend public events to promote programs and represent WCAAAS. Assist in planning, executing cultivation events. Assist in planning, maintaining corporate and foundation support. With development and Director, create and maintain stewardship relations and correspondences. Assist in grant writing initiatives, write grants. Participate in organizing Visiting Committee.

Required qualifications

PhD in Art History, Museum Studies, Curatorial Studies, or the Humanities, or a terminal degree in the appropriate related discipline. Evidence of excellence in organizing exhibitions. Strong writing skills, organizational skills, and professional demeanor. Staff and_or organizational management experience. Experience creating professional reports. Project management experience, including planning, creating, and monitoring budgets. Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

Training and experience in the interdisciplinary field of Black Studies. Familiarity with the administrative processes within universities. Experience working within communities committed to gender and racial justice. Experience with university or organizational administration. Experience advising students. Successful grant-writing experience. Be conversant with and support the core curriculum for Black Studies and social justice.
