To serve as the unit head for Texas Institute for Discovery Education in Science (TIDES), the undergraduate teaching innovation initiative in the College of Natural Sciences.

Essential Functions

Administer TIDES, including the Freshman Research Initiative and other undergraduate research programs: supervise educators, program administrators, and administrative personnel associated with the programs; set budget and budget priorities for all programs. Collaborate in the design, implementation, and assessment of new faculty-driven undergraduate science and math education; collaborate with faculty to broaden the impact of their research through undergraduate education, and develop associated evaluation plans. Direct new and existing undergraduate research programs across the college. Oversee and facilitate professional development offerings on evidence-based teaching and mentoring for current and future faculty, assess educational initiatives, and procure independent funding. Oversee evaluation of program effectiveness, including impacts on students' progress and success. Align College strategies for enhancing innovative teaching with the recommendations at the university level. Maintain a CNS teaching resources portal to make information and tools for effective teaching easily and widely accessible. Partner with the CNS External Relations Office to promote and fundraise for TIDES programming; actively seek external grant funding to support programs.

Required qualifications

Doctoral degree in a science, math, or related field. Proven knowledge about science and math education research. Five or more years experience in leading undergraduate education initiatives. University-level teaching experience. Five or more years experience with faculty and future faculty professional development on teaching and mentoring. Five years in a supervisory or management capacity with budget setting and management responsibilities. Record of success in obtaining grant funding and other external resources. Professional demeanor and excellent communication skills. Must be willing and able to travel. Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

More than the above experience. Publication history in science or math education research. Specific experience in funding, managing, and evaluating undergraduate research programs. Experience leading and supporting instructional change in higher education.
