Additional Information

Purpose

To manage multiple projects simultaneously to successful completion. Under general direction of a Manager, provide engineering and technical support to plan, schedule, coordinate and execute full life cycle commissioning of existing and new university facilities.

Essential Functions

Participate in the MEP design process, witness the static and dynamic testing of complex mechanical, electrical, control systems, and operate the system in normal, maintenance, and failure modes of operation. Undertake testing and commission activities in line with the specifications. Assist in the development of the commissioning plans. Assist in engineering design reviews. Interact with project stakeholders, and lead them through the commissioning process. Interact with contractors, interpret design and specifications. Work with clients to resolve problems within the scope of design or constructed project. Conduct site observations, surveys and prepare field reports on the status of the project and completion of the project with respect to compliance to the plans and specifications. Prepare punch list reports and determine corrective measures for on-site problems. Review shop drawings and submittals. Develop MEP testing and operating procedures. Respond to RFIs when requested by PM team. Assist in project closeout related to turnover of project OEM documents, equipment preventative maintenance logs, and preventative maintenance staff training. Provide consistent, timely, and reliable communication between all project stakeholders including clients, professional service providers, University personnel, and contractors to ensure that the project commissioning requirements are thoroughly documented and understood. Provide excellent customer service to meet client needs and University standards. Demonstrate excellent leadership and management skills. Provide professional direction for the project team to achieve common goals and successful projects. Manage multiple commissioning projects simultaneously to successful completion and meet demanding schedules. Coordinate and plan commissioning activities to ensure the critical path and schedule for the project is maintained to meet appropriate completion deadline. Stay current with information relating to commissioning. Stay current with changes in legislation, codes, building methods, and material and design construction standards impacting the execution of projects. Serve on committees, task forces, etc. to improve the departmental mission of project delivery. Represent Project Management and Construction Services at University events. Perform various administrative duties. Perform other duties as assigned. Driving University owned vehicles to job sites will be required for this and most other functions.

Licenses: Class "C" Operator's Driver's License. Applicant selected must provide a current three year Driving Record from the current state of residence. If not currently a Texas resident, must obtain a Texas Driver's License within 30 days after entering Texas as a new resident.

Required qualifications

Bachelors of Science degree in Engineering. Three to five years in building commissioning for renovation and new construction projects. Experience in the design, installation, maintenance, operation of small and large MEP systems for laboratories, classrooms, offices, and other facilities. Experience with MEP system analysis, troubleshooting, and energy efficiency improvements. Knowledge of building codes including International Building Code and ASHRAE commissioning industry standards. Experience in the preparation and delivery of presentations, proposals, and estimates. Effective communication experience with upper management, clients, project team members, and construction personnel. Computer experience with spreadsheet, word processing, and scheduling software. Current Class "C" Operator's Driver's License required. Prior to date of hire, selected applicant must submit a Motor Vehicle Report-MVR for review, providing a 36 month driving history, inclusive of all residences during that time. Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

A Masters degree in Engineering. Five to ten years in building commissioning. Commissioning certification. Licensed as a Professional Engineer in the state of Texas or licensed as a Professional Engineer in another state and can secure a license in Texas within 6 months. Project Management Professional-PMP certification, credentialed as a LEED-AP, or Certified Energy Manager-CEM certification is preferred.
