Additional Information

Purpose

To perform accounting and related assignments involving the recording, examination, analysis, and reporting of financial data. Serve as primary accountant for assigned federal, state, and institutional accounts. May supervise student accounting staff.

Essential Functions

Peer audit the work product of senior and junior accounting personnel in the performance of assignments involving the recording, analysis, and reporting of financial data. Oversee completion of prescribed reconciliation of federal, state, and institutional accounts. Interpret and ensure compliance with applicable federal and state laws and regulations. In conjunction with manager, train and assess accounting personnel in the completion of their duties. Recommend more effective and efficient operational procedures. Develops and recommend the implementation of departmental goals and objectives. Keep policies and procedures manuals current. Demonstrate good proficiency with financial analysis and accounting processes. Identify and assess risks and errors, bring them to managers attention, and work with manager and other prescribed staff to provide resolution. Monitor accounts, transactions and/or processes to ensure integrity and reliability. Manage the preparation of financial reports for data analysis. Supervise the preparation of statistical reports. Prepare monthly financial reports and schedules for annual financial reports. Attend conferences, seminars or other professional development venues.

Required qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Accounting or CPA. A combination of two years of experience in commercial accounting or governmental accounting. Must be persistent, detail-oriented, customer-focused, exhibit professional demeanor, deadline-oriented with the ability to make timely decisions and possess the ability to multi-task. Must be able to use computer keyboard and terminal, Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, and other standard office software and equipment. Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate. As a condition of hire and continued employment, must be in good standing on all federal student loans and must grant permission for office to access NSLDS to verify such standing. Must be willing to divest of any stock or other ownership interest in a student loan lender before start of employment. Shares in a publicly traded mutual fund or similar investment vehicle are exempted. Preferred Qualifications

Masters in Accounting or CPA with two years or more of governmental or fund accounting with two years of public higher education experience. Knowledge of DEFINE. Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel. Experience with financial audits. Astute attention to details. Comfortable with higher management. Strong written communication skills. Can effectively cope with change, maintains calm in uncomfortable situations, can decide and act without having the total picture, can comfortably handle risk and uncertainty and gathers information. Can project consequences of choices with the ability to differentiate between critical and trivial issues.
