Provide detailed data analyses of GPS observation and navigation data collected from a global GPS tracking network and analyses of precise orbits supporting objectives related to assessing GPS constellation and tracking network performance in terms of data quality metrics and investigation anomalies.

Essential Functions

Perform analyses of precise GPS orbits, observation and navigation data from GPS and other GNSS using established algorithms and independently developing new algorithms as required using both Python and C++ software development and scripting. Analyze, characterize, and recommend changes to improve the system performance of a global GPS tracking network. Document progress and results of work. Provide guidance and assistance with technical analyses to other full time staff, external colleagues and student employees. Identify potential improvements in production of precise GPS/GNSS orbits and reference frame maintenance. Participate in project reviews and technical interface meeting to present analysis results to sponsors and other external organizations. Test and assess performance of GPS and GNSS receivers. Identify new methods of collection and analysis of GPS and other GNSS data. Present and publish work at professional conferences. Identify future analytical software and hardware resource requirements. Assist software development team in implementing analytical algorithms. Represent ARL:UT and sponsoring organizations in external forums pertaining to GPS/GNSS research, policy and inter-agency working groups. Assist with data archive organization and maintenance. Further develop knowledge of GPS and related domains through research or technical literature.

Required qualifications

Bachelor's degree in engineering, computer or information science, or other applied sciences and three years direct experience in GPS, GNSS or closely related technical field. Significant experience interpreting, characterizing, and reporting data processing results and significant professional experience in data analysis software development. US Citizen: Applicant selected will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information at the level appropriate to the project requirements of the position. Evidence of skills in the following areas: working with new technologies, being highly organized, planning and coordinating multiple tasks, effective time management, attention to detail, effective problem solving skills, using excellent judgment, working independently with sensitive and confidential information, maintaining a professional demeanor, working as a team member without daily supervision, effectively communicating with diverse groups of clients, working under pressure, accepting supervision and demonstrating regular/punctual attendance.

Preferred Qualifications

Graduate degree(s) in Aerospace engineering and five or more years of directly relevant work experience. Five or more years full time relevant work experience with GPS data processing and analysis. Significant experience/skills developing data analysis tools with Python/C++. Experience with precise orbit determination including assessing accuracy and precision. Intermediate/in-depth knowledge of Kalman filters. Detailed knowledge/experience working with GPS observation and as-broadcast navigation data. Eligibility for immediate access to classified information. Intermediate/in-depth knowledge of GPS receiver operation and all GPS segments. Knowledge of other GNSS systems, signals, message content and experience processing data from said systems. History of publications in relevant journals and/or industry conferences. Experience with high fidelity GPS simulation equipment, software-defined GNSS receivers, or GPS Toolkit. Work experience with software configuration management processes and basic utilities and protocols. Experience with Linux/Unix. Cumulative GPA of 3.0 with a 3.5 in major coursework. Eligibility for immediate access to classified information.
