Work hours are 7:45am - 4:15pm. Work days, area and hours may vary based on the needs of the work group and the Division of Housing and Food Service. Must provide an acceptable 3 year driving record and maintain an acceptable driving record throughout employment. Candidate selected must provide verification of education and/or experience.

Additional Information

Purpose

To provide journey level technical painting and related skills in the performance of work required for the maintenance, repair and operation of the assigned residential facilities maintenance zone.

Essential Functions

1. Painting: Provide journey level work for painting, and minor carpentry repairs. Knowledgeable with painting techniques, products and the application to various surface materials with the use of brush, roller, airless, HVLP, and spray guns. Knowledgeable in applying stain and varnish for new and refinish of existing stained and varnished surfaces. 2. Drywall and Plaster: Repair, tape, texture and float drywall. Repair and apply acoustic finishes. Perform and assist other craft work when directed or workload requires. Repair and install lath and plaster. 3. Work Orders and Inventory: Analyze computer generated work orders and prioritize repairs. Use troubleshooting and diagnostic techniques to identify paint and related materials as well as maintain painting equipment. Charge out all material and account for all inventory used and return unused back into the inventory system. 4. Transportation/Equipment Operation: Drive a UT vehicle to work site, transporting equipment and supplies as needed to perform routine and preventive maintenance, and/or repairs 5. Communication: Demonstrate excellent interpersonal communication and customer service skills. Communicate with supervisor, staff, and student residents regarding needed repairs and work order status. Follow through with written and oral instructions from supervisor. 6. Documentation and Safety: Complete and submit paperwork in an accurate and timely manner. Ensure that all safety protocols are followed and ensure to properly report any unsafe condition and fill out the required report of injury form if injured. 7. Promote professional development of self and all staff to improve knowledge and work skills through ongoing training and workshops.

Licenses: Class "C" Operator's Driver's License. Applicant selected must provide a current three year Driving Record from the current state of residence. If not currently a Texas resident, must obtain a Texas Driver's License within 30 days after entering Texas as a new resident.

Marginal/Incidental functions

Pushing, Pulling and Moving a max force of 212 lbs and Lifting and Moving 80 lbs. Must be able to work under stress and as a team member. Other duties as assigned.

Required qualifications

High school graduation or GED. A total of five years experience in painting, drywall, plaster, and minor carpentry repair in a crafts trade of facilities maintenance or construction. Licenses: Class "C" Operator's Driver's License. Applicant selected must provide a current three year Driving Record from the current state of residence. If not currently a Texas resident, must obtain a Texas Driver's License within 30 days after entering Texas as a new resident. Applicant selected must have an acceptable 3 year driving record and maintain an acceptable driving record and valid license throughout employment. Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

More than five (5) years of journey level experience in the painting trade. More than five (5) years experience or journey level experience in the following: drywall, plaster, small carpentry. Commercial and remodeling experience, experience in maintenance and repair of resident rooms and apartments. Demonstrated excellent interpersonal communication skills. Demonstrated ability to receive, respond, and follow through with written and verbal work related instructions from supervisors, and co-worker.
