To oversee human resources functions at the Jackson School, with responsibility for Dean's Office and Dept of Geological Sciences HR and student support operations, review of documents and requests from other Jackson School units and serving as internal consultant regarding related policies and procedures.

Essential Functions

Responsible for HR and Student Support operations of Business Services office, serving the Dean's Office and Dept of Geological Sciences, including the supervision of staff and maintenance of up-to-date staffing projections, certifying appropriate funding sources. Assist with the transition to Workday HRM enterprise system. Ensure efficient and effective operations, the fulfillment of all unit responsibilities, a strong system of internal controls and compliance with policies and procedures. Identify and implement model business practices in HR and Student Support areas of responsibility. Assess unit performance and provide Business Services Operations manager regular reports conveying performance results along with recommended actions to be taken. Oversee student support (incl fellowships, scholarships, graduate research assistants and TA AI appointments, tuition, independent studies, off campus research, external grant matches, analytical fees, professional development), certifying appropriate funding sources and that all students are adequately supported. Review and approve electronic documents. Process documents as appropriate. Oversee all Business Services Office HR processes for faculty, postdoctoral fellows, classified, admin and prof, research staff, and visitors (incl hiring and separation, orientation, on boarding, off boarding, fund management, performance management, compensation, classification, organizational development, timekeeping, hourly payroll, training, awards, personnel files, other records management, and compliance). Review and approve electronic documents. Process documents as appropriate. Serve as liaison to administrative offices of the University and represent the Jackson School on appropriate university committees. Remain current on all university polices and procedures. Ensure compliance with ADA, FLSA, EEO, international and other related regulations. Apprise Business Services Operations manager on all issues. Advise Jackson School community on HR related issues. Work in conjunction with Business Services Office staff to achieve operational, departmental, and school goals.

Required qualifications

Bachelor's degree in human resources, business administration, public administration, or related field. Five years of experience in a human resources function, including experience in essential job functions. Able to operate creatively, collegially, and effectively in a complex business environment across all levels, including working closely with other Jackson School of Geosciences units, faculty, research scientists, staff, and students, as well as the University at large. Demonstrated attention to detail, proficiency with budgeting and use of spreadsheets. Willing and able to accomplish personal workload in a timely fashion, in addition to supervising, appropriately delegating, mentoring, and motivating staff in a team environment, taking full responsibility for the final product. Skilled in conflict resolution with a sensitivity to confidential information and situations. Demonstrated decision making and problem solving skills. Outstanding interpersonal, organizational and communication skills, customer service focused and professional demeanor. Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

Directly related management training and experience. Proficient with Microsoft Office suite, FileMaker Pro, and other information management systems.
