Purpose

To perform journey-level work in the installation, maintenance, repair, and service of electrical systems of University facilities and equipment for the UT Marine Science Institute in Port Aransas, Texas.

Essential Functions

Performs installation, maintenance, inspection, modification, and repair of building and equipment, electrical systems and components rated up to 600 volts. Responds to service calls; troubleshoots systems, circuits, controls, panels, and switchgears, and takes corrective action. Traces circuits and tests continuity of electrical and electronic circuits for installed equipment utilizing ammeter, voltmeter, ohmmeter, as-built drawings, and visual inspections. Plans, lays out, and installs wiring, components, and equipment for new construction and renovations in conformance with design drawings, specifications, and compliance with published codes. Installs temporary power for campus special events and contractors. Tests electrical equipment for safety and accuracy. Assists with severe weather preparations and evacuation; rigging emergency power and emergency generator testing. Performs work in accordance with established safety procedures; maintains a clean and safe work environment.

Licenses: Class "C" Operator's Driver's License. Applicant selected must provide a current three year Driving Record from the current state of residence. If not currently a Texas resident, must obtain a Texas Driver's License within 30 days after entering Texas as a new resident.

Required qualifications

High school graduation or GED. Five years of experience in as a journeyman electrician. Three years of experience as a journeyman in a construction facility maintenance trade related to the posted job functions. Must be able to work independently as well as a team player. Must have excellent communication skills. Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

Associate degree or graduation from technical or vocational trade school. Knowledge of digital control systems.
