General Notes

Hours will be from 6:00am - 2:30pm during the summer months. Occasional overtime, weekend, evening and holiday work may be required. Regular and punctual attendance at the workplace required. Position is non-exempt classified.

Purpose

To perform semi-skilled labor in the maintenance of recreational facilities, surfaces and to perform semi-skilled labor in the maintenance of recreational facilities, surfaces and equipment.

Essential Functions

Assist in performing on-site maintenance for multiple outdoor facilities with a combined total of nearly 40 acres of fenced playing fields and 200,000 square feet of surfaces for tennis, basketball, and jogging. Assist in performing layout and markings of a wide variety of athletic fields and provide related set-up needs for special events and tournaments. Assist in performing preventative maintenance and repairs of all vehicles, tractors, mowers, engines, motors, irrigation systems, fences, fixtures, buildings, and a wide variety of related items. Assist in day-to-day care of grass fields to include mowing, irrigation, weed control and fertilization; operate a wide variety of grounds maintenance equipment. Perform daily inspection of facilities and equipment and take necessary action as merited; assist in maintaining the required tools and parts to perform all tasks. Assist in maintaining records of repairs and parts, and participate in the inventory process. Participate in maintenance staff meetings and training sessions to include evaluation, planning and direction setting. Drive a university vehicle and perform other related tasks as assigned.

Licenses: Class "C" Operator's Driver's License. Applicant selected must provide a current three year Driving Record from the current state of residence. If not currently a Texas resident, must obtain a Texas Driver's License within 30 days after entering Texas as a new resident.

Marginal/Incidental functions

Assist with minor repairs to indoor facilities and sports equipment.

Required qualifications

High school graduation or GED. Two years of experience as a helper or apprentice to a journey level craft worker. Licenses: Class "C" Operator's Driver's License. Applicant selected must provide a current three year Driving Record from the current state of residence. If not currently a Texas resident, must obtain a Texas Driver's License within 30 days after entering Texas as a new resident. Two years experience in grounds care and maintenance. Experience in turf maintenance, and with maintenance and repair of irrigation systems. Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

One year or more experience in turf maintenance, and with maintenance and repair of irrigation systems. Specialized training in the operations, repair and maintenance of mowers tractors, trucks, paint machines, irrigation systems, weed eaters, aerators, spreaders and other machinery. Experience maintaining athletic fields including fertilizer application. Experience working effectively as a team member and independently. Current TDA Pesticide Application License, and a TCEQ Landscape Irrigation Technician License.
