Additional Information

Purpose

Conduct research on the immune-genetic basis of fish resistance to a cestode parasite, as part of a National Institute of Health funded grant.

Essential Functions

Generate DNA sequencing and RNA sequencing data using next-generation-sequencing (NGS) methods. Bioinformatic analyses of NGS data. Experimental gene editing of cell culture or fish embryos. Conduct experimental infections of fish with cestodes. Data analysis. Publish scientific results in peer-reviewed journals. Train and guide work performed by graduate and undergraduate students and field technician.

Licenses: Class "C" Operator's Driver's License. Applicant selected must provide a current three year Driving Record from the current state of residence. If not currently a Texas resident, must obtain a Texas Driver's License within 30 days after entering Texas as a new resident.

Marginal/Incidental functions

Field work to collect specimens in British Columbia. Other related functions as assigned.

Required qualifications

Must have received PhD within the last three years in evolutionary biology, genetics, computational biology, or a related field. Knowledge of next-generation sequencing methods, molecular genetics lab techniques, and computational analyses of DNA sequence data. The candidate must show previous success at publishing scientific results.

Preferred Qualifications

Previous experience with RNAseq, QTL mapping, genomics, or methods to assay immune phenotypes are preferred. Experience with animal care (particularly fish) is helpful.
