Additional Information

Purpose

To serve as learning specialist in the Sanger Learning Center in the School of Undergraduate Studies at the University of Texas at Austin with primary responsibilities to the Discovery Scholars Program.

Essential Functions

Provide direct service to UT students in the Discovery Scholars Program through academic counseling, presentations, classes, and workshops. In collaboration with UGS personnel, provide instructional support to UGS teaching assistants and student educators through training, observation and feedback, and individual, group consultations. Collaborate on the development of instructional resources for Sanger Learning Center professional and student educators. Take initiative and facilitates initiatives, aligned with center priorities to enhance quality and efficiency, both internally and in the campus community. Engages in professional development and contributes to the field of learning assistance.

Other related functions as assigned.

Required qualifications

Master's degree and three years of experience in an academic support or teaching role in an institution of higher education. Experience counseling undergraduate students' academic skills. Ability to establish and maintain productive working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and colleagues. Demonstrated ability to balance multiple projects and meet deadlines. Excellent leadership, organizational, and communication skills. Demonstrated ability to initiate actions with minimal supervision and maximum discernment. Proficiency with MS office software suite. Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

Demonstrated knowledge in the areas of student learning, curriculum development, and learning strategies instruction. Work experience creating student-centered learning materials for classroom and training purposes. Experience training or supervising undergraduate student educators and graduate teaching assistants. Experience with research methods and learning outcomes assessment. Experience with survey development and database management.
