Additional Information

Purpose

Perform and assist postdoctoral fellows and students with experiments in the Messing lab.

Essential Functions

Breeding, tagging, genotyping, and supplying rodents to laboratory investigators. Keeping accurate breeding logs and records of animals used in experiments. Performing laboratory tasks that include making stock solutions, performing behavioral experiments, preparing samples for immunohistochemistry, performing western blot analyses, performing cell culture, and keeping accurate and timely records of experimental procedures and results in laboratory notebooks.

Other related functions as assigned.

Required qualifications

Bachelors degree in biology, biochemistry, life sciences or related field. Proficiency with MS Office Suite, especially Excel, and excellent data management and analysis skills, including knowledge of basic statistics (ANOVA, linear and nonlinear regression). Excellent organizational and time-management skills. Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

Biology laboratory work experience. Experience with animal husbandry, genotyping, cell culture, histological techniques, western blot and other immune-detection techniques, PCR, in situ hybridization, and microscopy.
