General Notes

Work hours for this position can be negotiated with supervisor as long as they occur between the hours of 8:00 am and 5:00 pm Monday through Friday. Occasional hours during evenings and weekends with compensatory time to be arranged with supervisor.

Additional Information

Purpose

To provide basic support for public services unit in an archive and museum including retrieving items stored offsite, assisting patrons with sign-in procedures, performing data entry and other clerical tasks.

Essential Functions

Work with staff and public to manage Briscoe Center offsite materials, including communicating with researchers who request materials housed offsite; processing their requests with use of proprietary software; retrieving materials; operating University Cargo van; returning and re-filing materials; and maintaining statistics. Maintain collaborative working relationship with offsite facility personnel. Perform routine data entry tasks on established and developing public service projects. Greet, register, and orient patrons to the archives. Answer questions in person and by phone about the Briscoe Centers hours and location. Operate office machines and equipment.

Licenses: Class "C" Operator's Driver's License. Applicant selected must provide a current three year Driving Record from the current state of residence. If not currently a Texas resident, must obtain a Texas Driver's License within 30 days after entering Texas as a new resident.

Marginal/Incidental functions

Other related functions as assigned.

Required qualifications

High school graduation or GED, and two years of library experience; or sixty hours of college credit and one year of library experience; or twelve hours of graduate coursework in Library and Information Science. Experience using suite of Microsoft Office computer applications including Word and Excel on Mac OS. Experience with direct in person customer service with the general public. Must exhibit professional demeanor and appearance. Licenses: Class C Operatoro Drivers License. Applicant selected must provide a current three year Driving Record from the current state of residence. If not currently a Texas resident, must obtain a Texas Drivers License within 30 days after entering Texas as a new resident. Driving Record must meet UT requirement to drive UT vehicle and must pass UT Driver training program. Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience meeting and working with the public in a retail or service environment. Public service experience in a library, archives, or museum setting. Experience maintaining or creating organizational scheme for records or inventory. Basic knowledge of filing systems and indexing. Experience with database entry and information retrieval. Experience in a University library. Proven ability to perform repetitive tasks with careful attention to detail. Experience with functions listed below. Strong communication skills. Ability to change work priorities at a moments notice. Ability to perform tedious tasks with careful attention to detail; to analyze and solve problems; and to work independently and as a team member meeting deadlines. Strong interpersonal skills, service orientation. Ability to meet challenging situations with flexibility and tact.
