Purpose

To provide skilled landscaping work to maintain the University campus landscape.

Essential Functions

Maintains landscape to University standards (including all turf, shrub, and hardscape). Reports trouble conditions on campus especially in areas related to landscape, such as, trip hazards, lighting, broken limbs, water breaks, and any other condition that might be a safety hazard to the University community. Irrigates the landscape (turf, trees, and shrubs) to maintain the health of the plants, and abides by water restrictions as directed. Reports needed repairs to the irrigation technician in order to prevent water waste. Safely operates landscaping equipment. Driving University owned vehicles to job sites will be required for this and most other functions. Acts in the absence of the crew leader, such as directing work. Cleans and maintains University vehicles and equipment. Maintains the shop areas, work sites, equipment, and tools in a safe and orderly fashion.

Licenses: Class "C" Operator's Driver's License. Applicant selected must provide a current three year Driving Record from the current state of residence. If not currently a Texas resident, must obtain a Texas Driver's License within 30 days after entering Texas as a new resident.

Marginal/Incidental functions

Other related duties will be assigned, including working with other departments within the University Operations portfolio and throughout The University of Texas System, and occasional overtime required.

Required qualifications

High school graduation or GED. One to three years of experience in the care of plants, flowers, shrubs, trees and lawns. Experience using and maintaining power equipment and hand tools used in gardening work. Ability to pull, push, and lift up to 50 lbs. Capable of working in all types of adverse conditions (environmental, weather, dust, loud noise, heights, fumes, smoke, air pollution, allergens, etc). Stable work history. Current Class "C" Operator Driver License required. Prior to date of hire, applicant selected must provide a Motor Vehicle Report (MVR) showing a driving history going back 36 months. This includes all states resided in for the past 36 months. MVR will be evaluated to determine eligibility to drive a University-owned vehicle. If not currently a Texas resident, must obtain a Texas Driver License within 30 days after entering Texas as a new resident. Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
