Additional Information


Serve primarily as a applications/system administrator to install, configure, and operate servers and applications supporting the campus building physical access controls and video systems. Shares some responsibility for managing Windows, Linux and AIX servers, as well as some limited development.

Essential Functions

Administer applications/systems for the building physical access controls and video security systems, including installation and maintenance of operating system, physical hardware, and commonly used services such as patching, backup, firewall and terminal servers. Share responsibilities for Windows, Linux and AIX servers with other system groups. Work with vendors and technicians to support, integrate, and test building physical access control and video applications. This task involves installing, testing, and troubleshooting the application and its required components. Develop and document procedures to integrate servers with central campus services such as networking, mainframe and Active Directory. Participate in on-call rotations to provide 24/7 support for production services. Drive to locations when necessary.

Required qualifications

Three years of professional experience in Windows/Unix server administration and application support. Three years of experience supporting Windows application in an Active Directory environment and/or managing domain controllers. Proficiency in Linux and/or AIX server administration to support web and database servers. Solid understanding of network fundamentals, such as TCP/IP, OSI layers, IP addresses and subnets, network firewalls and proxies. Demonstrated ability to work independently and without day-to-day supervision on highly varied technical tasks with changing priorities. Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related discipline, or four years of equivalent professional experience. Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

Three years of physical access control and/or video application administration. Three years of experience working with a virtualized environments for servers, particularly in VMware. Proficiency in Windows scripting or cross-platform scripting languages such as Perl and Python. Experience with SQL database, system monitoring, performance turning, change management processes and network security. Enterprise project experience with the design/deployment of a new physical access control/video system.
