Purpose

Responsible for managing and coordinating the day-to-day operations of the Tier 1 University Transportation Center (UTC): Cooperative Mobility for Competitive Megaregions (CM2) awarded by the U.S. Dept of Transportation. The assistant director will work closely with the Center Director to manage budgets and research.

Essential Functions

Manage operations including center budget management, center website content and maintenance, and coordination between USDOT and CM2 as well as among the CM2 consortium members on CM2 related business. Manage research operations including soliciting research ideas, proposals, and budgets, organizing proposal reviews, monitoring research progress, and compiling/posting research reports and deliverables for the CM2 consortium partners. Help to oversee and coordinate the UT Austin Team (School of Architecture and Center for Transportation Research) faculty principal investigators budgets and timeline. Coordinate communication and budgets with consortium partners Louisiana State University, Texas Southern University, and the University of Pennsylvania Oversee office management and operations including purchasing, travel, contracts, and coordinating with the Office of Sponsored Projects. Coordinate events including consortium meetings and outreach activities. Other duties as requested by Center Director. Hire, train, determine work priorities and oversee the UT Austin based UTC research team composed of students and participating faculty.

Marginal/Incidental functions

Required qualifications

Bachelor's degree in a related field and five years of responsible level experience in program administration or program coordination or master's degree and three years of above experience, or doctoral degree and one year of above experience. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to work independently and maintain cooperative interaction with University departments, stakeholders, and external agencies. Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with federal grant management and budget preparation. Familiarity with UT Austin grant management processes and Office of Sponsored Projects review and coordination. Intermediate level of skills and knowledge in office computer applications and website content management. Skilled in budget management and preparation. Work experience in federal, state, regional, and local agencies or private sectors in transportation and related fields.
