The College of Liberal Arts is seeking dynamic and skilled professionals to support the College of Liberal Arts and numerous other university entities by maintaining the cabling, equipment, and records for network and voice operations. Weekend, holiday, and overtime hours may be required as work demands.

Provide network and voice support and maintain network infrastructure.

Essential Functions

Patch cables, perform switch installation and configuration, and perform move/add/change services for network infrastructure. Patch cables, provision, install, and perform move/add/change services for VoIP telephony infrastructure. Troubleshoot wired and wireless network and VoIP user problems. Maintain inventory and life cycle (order/surplus) of patch cables, switches, phones, and cable management supplies. Maintain network switch/cable patching database and inventory of networked devices. Assist supervisor with wired and wireless network, cabling, and voice projects, including moves, renovations, and life cycle upgrades. Collaborate and effectively communicate with central ITS Telecommunications and Networking and other university departments. Supervise student assistants.

Required qualifications

High school graduation or GED. Three years of experience maintaining network and/or telephony infrastructure. Excellent interpersonal skills, including verbal, non-verbal, and written communication skills. Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor's degree. More than three years of experience maintaining network and/or telephone infrastructure. Experience managing and maintaining organized inventory information. Ability to work effectively both as part of a team and independently with little supervision. Professional experience providing customer service. Experience with network patching (110/RJ-45), punchdown tools and cabling management. Experience with Cisco operating system configuration and commands. Experience with Voice-Over-IP telephony equipment. Experience with network protocol analysis software (e.g. ethereal, wireshark, nmap). Experience with cable testing/toners and network analysis tools (e.g. Fluke Network tools). Experience with Microsoft Office suite (particularly with Excel). Ability to touch type. Supervisory experience. Experience supervising student employees. Experience working in a university setting.
