In the Dept. of Chemical Engineering, to conduct research in the development of therapeutic proteins and with an emphasis on evaluation of engineered protein therapeutics in mouse models and related mechanistic studies in vitro. General lab management.

Essential Functions

Mouse cancer xenograft and transgenic models. Characterization of lymphocyte subpopulations from animals. Maintenance of mouse colonies; tumor implantation and therapeutic administration by various routes. Tissue culture experience and supervision of the tissue culture facility for the group. Collaboration with Postdoctoral fellows, research technicians, graduate and undergraduate students working on projects designed by the PI. Train graduate students in mouse experiment protocols and cell culture protocols. Submit new and renewal animal protocols in the eProtocol system. Place orders and maintain accurate records of all animal related purchases. Assist in the writing of grant proposals and research publications.

Required qualifications

Master's degree and two years of related experience, or bachelor's degree and four years of related experience. Animal Husbandry experience. Animal handling skills including intravenous, inra-occular, and subcutaneous injection, tissue and blood collection, and breeding. Experience with tissue culture, xenografts and transgenic mouse models. Accurate record keeping, Aseptic technique, good hand eye coordination and problem solving skills. Strong organizational, observational and computer/data entry skills. Good time management and ability to multi-task. The ability to work independently and in a team environment. Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate. Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

2-5 Years work experience in a research or technically related field, or an associates or related degree such as Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT) or Laboratory Animal Technician (LAT) is strongly preferred.
