Senior level management of the drilling automation research program, within the Department of Petroleum and Geosystems Engineering at UT Austin.

Essential Functions

Conduct senior level research in drilling automation research. Write scientific proposals and solicit funds to manage the program. Supervise the daily operation of the UT Real Time Operational Center and Hardware In Loop Simulation. Write scientific papers, and disseminate research work at conferences. Recruit, mentor, and support student related research activities.

Marginal/Incidental functions

Other related functions as assigned.

Required qualifications

Engineering Ph.D. in Mechanical, Electrical, or Computer Science; with 10 or more years experience in deploying automation and data analytics solutions. Principal Investor in major research and development projects, and strong understanding or prior work experience in oil and gas industry. Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred candidate will have supervised and been on committees of Ph.D.students, and raised at least 5MM in research funds as a PI/CO-PI.
