We are seeking a talented front-end web designer and developer to join our small team of web professionals. Someone with a passion for creating and designing great web experiences from the ground up, someone who can translate the needs and visions of our clients into solid designs.

Essential Functions

As the front-end web designer and developer you will work closely with our digital strategist, back-end web application developers, communications office, and other stakeholders to design, develop, test, and implement responsive web sites and applications. You will stay current on standards for web usability, design, HTML, CSS, scripting languages, browser compatibility, and accessibility, and should have a desire for learning new skills and a curiosity for keeping up with the latest in web technology. In this role, you will be able to collaborate directly with clients to determine their needs and will actively participate with the full team in the web development life cycle.

Required qualifications

Bachelor's degree and three years of experience designing and developing websites. A solid knowledge of front-end web technologies, including HTML5, CSS, JavaScript, and other contemporary browser APIs. Experience with responsive web design and designing for different device experiences. Familiarity with designing for user experience, UX. Working knowledge of cross-browser and cross-device testing and debugging. Working knowledge of design and prototyping tools such as Sketch, Figma, Adobe XD, Photoshop, Illustrator, etc. Experience working with stakeholders to convert their business needs into solutions. Ability to handle multiple tasks and projects simultaneously. Excellent communication skills. Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

Excellent problem solving skills and ability to adapt to the changing technologies in web development. A good eye for graphic design principles concerning layout, color, and typography. Excellent skills in understanding and defining information design and the presentation of content to the viewer. Strong understanding and appreciation of web standards-Section 508 or WCAG 2.0, usability-accessibility standards, and related experience using tools for testing web applications for accessibility standards compliance. Basic knowledge of PHP, WordPress theme development. Experience designing for WordPress as a content management system. Knowledge of typography for web, usage of web fonts, icon systems, etc. Familiarity with Sass or other CSS pre- and post-processors. Experience with CSS3 features and familiarity with CSS frameworks such as Foundation. Expertise with JavaScript and jQuery and familiarity with JavaScript frameworks such as React or Vue. Familiarity with design for open source content management systems such as Drupal and WordPress. Experience using version control tools such as Git. Knowledge of front-end website performance optimization. Experience working in higher ed.
