This posting is for a pool of substitute K-12 teachers in the Austin area. Occasional opportunities will exist at the University of Texas Elementary School and at facilities located throughout Austin, Georgetown and Buda.

Purpose

Serve as substitute teacher in the absence of permanent teacher. Provides students with learning activities and experiences to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. Enables students to develop competencies and skills to function successfully in society.

Essential Functions

Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students. Establish and maintain open communication with the principal, professional support personnel, teachers, facility staff, parents, and students. Manage student behavior effectively and in accordance with the treatment plan if applicable, the Student Code of conduct and the student handbook.

Marginal/Incidental functions

Other related functions as assigned.

Required qualifications

General knowledge of curriculum and instruction. Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills. Ability to work in a non-traditional school setting with special needs students of varying abilities and interests. Maintain awareness of individual differences i.e., culture, disability, ethnicity, gender, race, sexual orientation, socioeconomic status or other factors and respond in ways that acknowledges the other person's perspective, experiences and voice. Maintain awareness and understanding of the role that trauma may play in the lives of our students. This position requires fingerprinting. Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
