Offering an Associate Academic Advisor position in the Center for First-Year Advising, College of Natural Sciences. Occasional evening and weekend hours may be required.

Additional Information

Purpose

To provide academic advising to students in the Center for First-Year Advising. To facilitate multiple sections of small learning communities and or lead programmatic initiatives. Provide accurate and timely information on course and degree options to diverse populations.

Essential Functions

To provide academic advising for students individually and in groups. Present academic oriented material through workshops, facilitate multiple sections of FIG-CNS Cornerstone cohorts, and participate in new student orientation. Oversee the SUCCESS program which provides assistance to CNS students on probation. Attend meetings, professional development and serve on committees as assigned.

Marginal/Incidental functions

Other related functions as assigned.

Required qualifications

Bachelor's degree in a related field and four years of experience working with college students in an academic capacity or Master's degree in a related field and two years of experience in counseling, group work, assessment and administration of student academic programs. Proficient oral and written communication skills. Ability to communicate with all levels of constituents: students, parents, faculty and other staff members. Demonstrated professional demeanor. Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

Demonstrated effectiveness in presentation skills, leading small groups or classrooms. One or more years experience at UT Austin. Experience overseeing academic programs and initiatives.

Working conditions

May work around standard office conditions General office conditions with the majority of time spent in contact with students, parents and student groups during usual office hours. Occasional evening and weekend work.
