General Notes

Work schedule is 7:45am to 4:15pm. Work days, area and hours may vary based on the needs of the work group and DHFS. Candidate selected must provide verification of education and/or experience.

Purpose

To provide maintenance and repair work in performance of a variety of tasks in one or more craft areas in the operation of the assigned residential facilities maintenance zone.

Essential Functions

1. Routine Maintenance: Perform routine general maintenance assigned by supervisor for all craft areas. Work independently and assist journey-level craft workers as assigned by supervisor. Communicate daily with supervisor and leader status of work orders that need assistance from other trades. Sign out, track, and account for all inventory used and/or taken from shop. 2. Electrical, Plumbing, HVAC: Change out lamps, switches, outlets and perform minor electrical repairs in residence halls. Daily walk throughs in hallways and mechanical rooms and replace light bulbs. Work on toilets, sinks, showers, replace trim, unstop toilets, repair flush valves, replace washers and seats . Change out air filters, check a/c units and work with HVAC technician doing preventative maintenance on units and other work as directed by supervisor. 3. Carpentry and Paint: Repair bed frames and furniture: check on building furniture and do repairs on bed and furniture as needed. Check on furniture and hardware in residence halls and repair as needed or work with carpenter on major repairs. Assist painter in painting rooms, patch holes and touch up paint, assist with all other painting work such as plaster, drywall and etc. as directed by supervisor or leader. 4. Equipment Repair: Repair power tools, vacuum cleaners, scrubbers, and similar cleaning equipment. Assist in the repair of shop equipment (dollies, drain machines, etc) and inventory management. 5. Transportation/Equipment Operation: Drive a UT vehicle to work site, transporting equipment and supplies as needed to perform routine and preventive maintenance, and/or repairs. 6. Documentation and Safety: Complete and submit paperwork in an accurate and timely manner. Ensure that all safety protocols are followed and ensure to properly report any unsafe condition and fill out the required report of injury form if injured. 7. Licenses: Class "C" Operator's Driver's License. Applicant selected must provide a current three year Driving Record from the current state of residence. If not currently a Texas resident, must obtain a Texas Driver's License within 30 days after entering Texas as a new resident.

Marginal/Incidental functions

Pushing, Pulling and Moving a max force of 212 lbs and Lifting and Moving 80 lbs. Must be able to work under stress and as a team member. Other duties as assigned.

Required qualifications

High school graduation or GED. Two years of experience in performing installation, operation, construction, maintenance and/or repair work. Licenses: Class "C" Operator's Driver's License. Applicant selected must provide a current three year Driving Record from the current state of residence. If not currently a Texas resident, must obtain a Texas Driver's License within 30 days after entering Texas as a new resident. Applicant selected must have an acceptable 3 year driving record and maintain an acceptable driving record and valid license throughout employment. Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

More than two years of experience in a combination of electrical, plumbing, HVAC, carpentry, and painting. Experience in a commercial building maintenance and repair environment. UT experience. Excellent communication skills. Demonstrated excellent interpersonal communication skills with the ability to receive, respond, and follow through with written and verbal work related instructions from supervisors, customers, and co-workers.
