Purpose

Performs journey-level skilled work in maintenance, repair, and operation of University facilities and equipment including plumbing, HVAC, carpentry and general maintenance. Perform as a member of a team in a fast-paced multi-project environment at the UT Marine Science Institute in Port Aransas, Texas.

Essential Functions

Fabrication, installation, operation, and routine or emergency maintenance and/or repair of University facilities. May perform journey-level work in Plumbing - repair city water fixtures, saltwater fixtures, gas lines, steam lines, and waste lines; designs, orders parts, executes the job, clean up area during and after completion of the job. Carpentry - finish carpentry, painting and related work for new construction and maintenance projects. Confer with supervisor and staff on the scope of work, order materials, execute work, and clean up during the after completion of the job, meets deadlines. HVAC - Operation, maintenance, and installation of heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration equipment - logging of chillers daily, performing water test daily, maintaining control systems as designed, ensure that all filters are in rack and in good working order, repairs equipment as needed with minimum callbacks, orders parts as required and installs parts within one week of delivery; Electrical - Performs installation, maintenance, inspection, modification, and repair of building and equipment, electrical systems and components rated up to 600 volts. Responds to service calls; troubleshoots systems, circuits, controls, panels, and switch gears, and takes corrective action. Traces circuits and tests continuity of electrical and electronic circuits for installed equipment utilizing ammeter, voltmeter, ohmmeter, as-built drawings, and visual inspections. General routine maintenance and other duties as may be assigned.

Licenses: Class "C" Operator's Driver's License. Applicant selected must provide a current three year Driving Record from the current state of residence. If not currently a Texas resident, must obtain a Texas Driver's License within 30 days after entering Texas as a new resident.

Marginal/Incidental functions

Other related functions as assigned.

Required qualifications

High school graduation or GED. Five years of experience in the building construction, mechanical or utilities trade specified, including three years experience as a journeyman trade related to the posted job functions. Experience with tools and equipment common to the trades specified.

Preferred Qualifications

Five years of experience as a journeyman in a construction facility maintenance trade related to the posted job functions. Must be able to work independently as well as a team player. Must have excellent communication skills.
