To supervise and direct the work of a Zone Maintenance Team, in a variety of trades, required for the preventive maintenance of University facilities and equipment.

Essential Functions

Plans, prioritizes, assigns, reviews, coordinates, and inspects the work of others in the shop. Conducts employee hiring, job-related and safety training, counseling, discipline, and performance evaluations. Provides timely and courteous customer service, keeps upper management and shop employees up-to-date on current policies, procedures, and related official information to ensure clear, concise, and necessary communication channels are maintained. Maintains a high degree of productivity, efficiency, cost effectiveness, and quality in shop performance. Composes, reviews, and processes shop paperwork including letters, reports, timesheets, labor reports, emails, and materials and equipment requisitions to ensure all communication channels and work activities function properly. Closely monitors and controls key performance indicators. Driving University owned vehicles to job sites will be required for this and most other functions. Participates in project reviews, staff meetings, and various external shop training and assistance to ensure current and proper information, policies and procedures are known and distributed appropriately.

Licenses: Class "C" Operator's Driver's License. Applicant selected must provide a current three year Driving Record from the current state of residence. If not currently a Texas resident, must obtain a Texas Driver's License within 30 days after entering Texas as a new resident.

Marginal/Incidental functions

Other related functions as assigned. Maintain acceptable driver rating as established in Policy: UTS157 Section 2.5.4.

Required qualifications

Three years of supervisory experience in commercial/institutional construction/facility maintenance or three or more years of experience as an Assistant Supervisor or Crew Leader. Five years journeyman experience in construction/facility maintenance trade related to position posted. Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively to an array of customers to include team members, peers, building contacts, and management. Demonstrated ability to follow written and verbal instructions. Current Class "C" Operator Driver License required. Prior to date of hire, applicant selected must provide a Motor Vehicle Report (MVR) showing a driving history going back 36 months. This includes all states resided in for the past 36 months. MVR will be evaluated to determine eligibility to drive a University-owned vehicle. If not currently a Texas resident, must obtain a Texas Driver License within 30 days after entering Texas as a new resident.

Preferred Qualifications

More than the required years of maintenance and repair experience with building mechanical and electrical systems. Four year technical degree. Experience at the University of Texas or in a university setting. Demonstrated ability to provide excellent customer service through problem solving, conflict resolution and direct customer contact. Demonstrated strong team building skills. Demonstrated ability to lead a diverse multi-craft workforce in preventive maintenance and repair of mechanical systems. Demonstrated excellent written and verbal communication skills. Demonstrated stable work history. Successful completion of Facilities Services Leader Development Program. Commitment to Facilities Services core values. Experience with computerized service request system.
