The College of Liberal Arts is seeking a skilled systems administrator to support the College of Liberal Arts and numerous other university entities. Weekend, holiday, and overtime hours may be required as work demands.

Provide collaborative, cross-functional expertise and technical support to effectively manage the client-side fleet (desktops, laptops, printers, mobile devices, etc) using systems management tools, services, processes, and practices to enable compliance, security, and ease of support.

Essential Functions

Under limited supervision, assist with the development and management of tools, services, processes, and policies for the effective management of the client-side fleet, including: asset management and lifecycle, image creation and deployment, OS and application patch management, security, directory management, printer management, IT service management, mobile device management, software license management, compliance reporting, digital signage, and knowledge management. Provide system administration of departmental servers, storage, and related services and applications. Evaluate departmental servers, storage, and applications for migration, consolidation, deprecation, or ongoing administration. Recommend replacements or upgrades. Collaborate with project team on departmental IT transition projects. Prepare and maintain system and project planning documentation including disaster recovery plans, configuration management, licenses, warranties, contracts and inventories. Advise technical and non-technical customers on business processes, systems and services recommendations, and project plans. Provide advanced technical support, recommendations, and guidance in client-side systems administration and management to desktop support teams, customers, and technical groups across the enterprise. Collaborate effectively with peers and colleagues responsible for other support operations, including: desktop support, network security, classroom technology, and administrative services. Communicate effectively with clients to gauge customer satisfaction and incorporate feedback into future planning.

Required qualifications

Skills comparable to someone with three or more years of professional experience providing desktop support, systems management/desktop engineering, and/or system administration of servers, storage and software applications. Ability to analyze, diagnose, and resolve technical issues. Ability to work with little or no supervision, both independently and as part of a team. Ability to communicate effectively, both written and verbally, to technical and non-technical audiences. Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills.

Preferred Qualifications

More than three years experience implementing systems management tools and processes to maintain a fleet of Windows and/or Mac OSX laptop and desktop computers. Experience with system imaging and deployment tools. Experience with systems management tools, including: Microsoft Deployment Toolkit, System Center Configuration Manager (SCCM), Jamf/Casper, LANrev/Absolute Manage, DeployStudio, and similar applications. Experience with configuration and administration of ITSM or ticketing systems. Experience with development, staging, and deployment of operating system and security patches. Experience with print management. Experience managing mobile clients. Experience developing and implementing inventory, audit and compliance reports. Experience managing thin or virtual computing environments. Experience developing and managing digital signage and restricted function kiosk computers. Experience managing a directory service (Active Directory, Open Directory, LDAP) and developing and applying system policies. Experience managing and provisioning software licensing applications (key servers, license managers). Experience with Bash, PowerShell, or Python. Experience working at university.
