Purpose

Manage the operations of the Archives of American Mathematics, a component of the Briscoe Center for American History, including acquisitions, accessions, appraisal, arrangement, description, and preservation.

Essential Functions

Manage the operations of the Archives of American Mathematics, a component of the Briscoe Center for American History, including acquisitions, accessions, appraisal, arrangement, description, and preservation. Work in close consultation with the Center's development team to raise awareness of the collection among potential collection and monetary donors. Meet and communicate with donors to facilitate collection development and the acquisition process, and assist in transferring archival collections to the Center, with some occasional travel as needed. Perform outreach to promote awareness and support for the Math Archives, including staffing a display booth at an annual mathematics conference, writing periodic articles for industry journals and newsletters, and speaking to mathematics-related groups. Coordinate the relationship with grant funders including periodic meetings, submitting reports, and correspondence. Manage collections using ArchivesSpace. Train and supervise project intern's. Initiate and supervise digitization projects. Respond to math-related reference questions. Collaborate with other staff members in work groups, planning sessions, and other activities. Work in public service regularly, including 1-2 Saturdays per semester. Speak periodically to classes and other groups about the mathematics collections.

Licenses: Class "C" Operator's Driver's License. Applicant selected must provide a current three year Driving Record from the current state of residence. If not currently a Texas resident, must obtain a Texas Driver's License within 30 days after entering Texas as a new resident.

Required qualifications

AALA-accredited MSIS with specialized coursework in archival enterprise or an advanced degree in an applicable subject field with archival training. At least 3 years of experience working as an archivist and supervisor. Strong interpersonal skills. Ability to meet challenging situations with flexibility and tact. Demonstrated commitment to a collaborative work environment. Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate. Must be able to lift 50 pound boxes of library materials. Licenses: Class "C" Operator's Driver's License. Preferred Qualifications

Academy of Certified Archivists certification. Familiarity with ArchivesSpace. Knowledge of preservation standards and best practices for a variety of archival formats. Commitment to professional growth through ongoing professional development and knowledge of evolving best practices for research and archival institutions. Demonstrated ability to foster a collaborative work environment. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Strong project management skills. Knowledge of math history and the history of mathematics education in the U.S.
