Purpose

Prepare financial aid award packages, revisions of awards, obtain required documentation, and perform follow ups. Counsel students on financial aid eligibility, personal financial planning, and money management.

Essential Functions

Prepares financial aid packages and revisions, obtains required documentation, and follows up with requested information from students. Counsel students on financial aid eligibility, personal financial planning, and money management. Assists in the implementation of processing procedures as related to financial aid. Interacts with other University departments, state and federal agencies, and financial institutions. Attends professional development and training meetings. Participates in community outreach, making presentations on various financial aid topics.

Marginal/Incidental functions

Other related functions as assigned.

Required qualifications

Bachelors degree. A combination of one year of experience in student financial aid, student personnel, student services, or related experience. Organized, detail-oriented, customer-focused. Must have superior communication and time-management skills and a professional demeanor. Capable of multi-tasking in high-stress environment. Able to prioritize work assignments to complete work within required time periods. As a condition of hire and continued employment, must be in good standing on all federal student loans and must grant permission for office to access NSLDS to verify such standing. Must be willing to divest of any stock or other ownership interest in a student loan lender before start of employment. Shares in a publicly traded mutual fund or similar investment vehicle are exempted. Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

Extremely detail-oriented. Excellent interpersonal skills. Ability to handle stressful situations with composure. Knowledge of and proficiency with software including MS Word and Excel. Ideal candidate will be able to set priorities and manage multiple projects. Knowledge of state and federal financial aid programs typically acquired from one year of experience working in financial aid at UT Austin or two years working in the financial aid industry. Ability to remain productive in a fast-paced, shared space environment with frequent interruptions. Ability to make presentations to individuals and groups of various sizes.
