General Notes

The College of Liberal Arts is seeking skilled a systems administrator to support the College of Liberal Arts and numerous other university entities. Weekend, holiday, and overtime hours may be required as work demands. On-call rotation work required.

Install, configure and maintain servers, storage, and software applications in support of business requirements and university standards for the College of Liberal Arts and other university entities.

Essential Functions

Under supervision, oversee the installation, configuration, and maintenance of basic servers, storage, and software applications in support of business requirements. Exercise good judgment and take initiative to determine appropriate actions to support functions quickly and efficiently. Coordinate and conduct software installations and upgrades to operating systems and software packages. Ensure integrity of server systems and data by implementing and managing system backups, configuring security and access, evaluating system logs, and monitoring system status and performance. Direct hardware and software audits of servers to ensure compliance with established policies and configuration guidelines. Prepare and maintain system and application documentation, including: disaster recovery plans, configuration management, licenses, warranties, contracts, and inventories. Collaborate effectively with peers and colleagues responsible for other support operations, including: desktop support, network security, classroom technology, and administrative services. Communicate effectively with clients to gauge customer satisfaction and incorporate feedback into future planning.

Required qualifications

Skills comparable to someone with two or more years of professional experience providing desktop support, systems management, or system administration of servers, storage, and software applications. Technical experience supporting the following operating systems: Windows XP, Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows 8.1, Windows 10, Server 2008, Server 2008R2, Server 2012, Server 2012R2, Server 2016, Mac OSX. Skills comparable to someone with two or more years of professional experience supporting physical or virtual directory, mail, file, web, application and/or database servers. Ability to communicate effectively, both written and verbally, to technical and non-technical audiences. Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills.

Preferred Qualifications

More than two years of experience providing system administration to physical and/or virtual Windows servers. Experience with vm configuration, mail, file, web, application and/or database servers. Experience using scripting: bat and PowerShell. Experience with multiple server operating systems and platforms. Experience with multiple file systems, logical volume management, RAID hardware configuration and backup systems. Professional experience working at a university.
