Additional Information

Purpose

Provide advanced support to the Cashier/Insurance office by verifying benefits, obtaining pre-certification for all UHS Procedures and Specialty services and relaying benefit information to the patient to include deductible, co-insurance, cost sharing, and self-pay options.

Essential Functions

Provide advanced support to the Cashier/Insurance office by performing batch eligibility, verifying benefits, obtaining pre-certification for all UHS Procedures and Specialty services and relaying benefit information to the patient to include deductible, co-insurance, cost sharing, and self-pay options. Perform back-up cashier duties. Understands and complies with all applicable UHS and UT policies and procedures as well as all applicable state and federal laws. Exhibits exceptional customer service, professionalism, and team work in all aspects of work. Participates in other activities as appropriate and assigned. Demonstrates regular and punctual attendance pattern.

Marginal/Incidental functions

Other related functions as assigned.

Required qualifications

Bachelors degree and one year of clerical experience, or High School diploma and five years of clerical experience. Three or more years of experience in ambulatory family practice care setting with working knowledge of insurance verification and precertification, CPT, HCPCS, and ICD-9/10 coding, medical terminology, medical office billing policies and procedures, insurance/managed care billing procedures and excellent communication and customer service skills. Demonstrated ability to successfully work with a diverse community and provide services from a non-judgmental perspective. Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

More than the required years of experience. Experience in a university student health center setting with working knowledge of insurance verification and precertification, CPT, HCPCS, and ICD-9/10 coding, medical terminology, medical office billing policies and procedures, insurance/managed care billing procedures and excellent communication and customer service skills. Experience as a cashier. Experience working with currency or in a position which requires working with a high degree of accuracy. Experience using a credit card machine. Experience working as a team member. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Experience using Electronic Health Records, Billing Software, including Microsoft Word, Excel software Windows environment. Outstanding organizational skills. Excellent interpersonal communication skills. Professional demeanor.
