This position is open to current Department of Art and Art History employees only. The VAC Gallery Assistant Manager will work between the hours of 8 AM and 5 PM, Monday through Friday with occasional night or weekend work for special projects.

Purpose

The Gallery Assistant Manager will work alongside Visual Arts Center (VAC) Director to help manage VAC operating logistics. Responsibilities encompass all aspects of VAC operations to include exhibition management; special events, reception coordination; budget development, management and reconciliation.

Essential Functions

Help manage and reconcile the VAC annual operating budget, working with various spending parties to ensure VAC is in line with the departmental accounting systems and larger UT spending policies. Plan, staff, and execute all VAC receptions, programs and special event rentals. Work with artists to maintain VAC exhibition contracts, forms and reports. Oversee collection, development and maintenance of all exhibition content, including supplementary collateral, vinyl signage, exhibition labels and website information. Act as a VAC staff contact point for all spring student exhibition curators, artists, faculty representatives and students. Act as a liaison between Chief Preparator and exhibiting artists to facilitate exhibition installation and de-installation details.

Required qualifications

BA or BFA degree. Strong attention to detail, resourcefulness and ability to work both independently and as a team. Dynamic skill set, highly organized and capable of planning and coordinating multiple tasks. Strong interpersonal skills. Experience that indicates strong written and oral communication skills. Working knowledge of UT's processing systems. Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
