Serves as a member of the telephone counseling team, answering admissions inquiries and assisting with questions from applicants and the general public.

Essential Functions

Provide excellent customer service by giving accurate and helpful information on the telephone to students, other stakeholders, and the public concerning admissions processes and procedures. Answer multiple applicant inquiries over the telephone for extended periods of time. Discuss applicant issues, including missed admissions deadlines and eligibility. Make every effort to solve or address individuals' admissions concerns with care, respect, and efficiency. Answer general e-mail inquiries regarding admissions processes and procedures. Answer general University of Texas at Austin inquiries and transfer calls as needed. Serve as the point of contact for ApplyTexas (statewide admissions application) questions from applicants for other Texas universities.

Required qualifications

High school graduation or GED. Five years of experience providing customer service. One year of experience involving public contact over the telephone. Demonstrated excellent customer service skills. Demonstrated excellent written and verbal communication skills. Demonstrated knowledge of computers and standard office equipment. Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information using appropriate protocol and discretion. Demonstrated ability to work well as a team player. Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor's degree. More than three years of experience providing customer service. More than one year of experience in a position involving public contact over the telephone. Experience answering a multi-line telephone. Demonstrated advanced experience using Microsoft Office Suite and client databases. Demonstrated excellent problem-solving and interpersonal skills. Demonstrated ability to work in a fast paced, intense, and diverse work environment under the pressure of deadlines. Demonstrated knowledge of The University of Texas at Austin and its departments and academic offerings. Bilingual in Spanish and English.
