Additional Information


Provide post-award financial services on externally funded research projects for 15 investigators and 80 accounts. Provide account projections, oversee reconciling of expenditures, and provide monthly reports to investigators. Collaborate with pre-award specialist on budgets for proposals and contracts.

Essential Functions

Responsible for financial activities such as budget, contract compliance, financial reports, and other business management services for research and training accounts in the School of Social Work. Liaise with Sponsored Projects Award Administration (SPAA) on billing and related issues. Coordinate, monitor, and review account expenditures. Answer questions about account balances, salary projections, and allowable purchases. Prepare monthly statements for department accounts. Prepare cost-share reports for Central Accounting and pre-certify personnel effort for staff working on sponsored research projects. Supervise half-time Accounts Payable Specialist and assist with activities for Accountant I and Personnel Specialist. Also assist in supervising student assistant. Oversee the processing of vendor contracts, including hotel agreements, through the VPCFO office. Submit course buy-out forms for faculty working on research projects. Assist with Clearing Account monthly allocations of salary and fringe.

Required qualifications

Bachelor's degree in business or public administration, social sciences, or a technical/scientific field. Three years of experience in the preparation, processing, and negotiation of research grant and contract proposals. Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

Master's Degree in related field. Three years of experience in managing research accounts in a university setting. Experience with account management at UT-Austin, including knowledge of DEFINE, HRMS, FRMS, and Cognos. One year of supervisory experience. Experience submitting grant proposals and processing contracts. Certified Research Administrator. Excellent time-management skills, professional demeanor. Ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline driven research office. Ability to work with faculty, staff, and students from varied backgrounds.
