Position is located in Port Aransas, Texas. The full-time position will work on a rotating shift schedule that will be addressed at the beginning of each month. Some overtime, nights, weekends, and holidays.

Additional Information

Purpose

To monitor and assist with the security and protection of university buildings and properties. To control the access of personnel, report security violations, fire and other safety hazards at the UT Marine Science Institute in Port Aransas, Texas.

Essential Functions

Participates in shift change briefings and prepares activity report for each shift. Conducts foot (1/3) and vehicle (2/3) patrols of main building, labs, pier, Marine Science Education Center, boats and marina, FAML, Beach St. Apts., Wilson Cottages, physical plant, cafeteria, dorms and other owned/leased properties. Conducts inspections and operational checks of exterior/interior doors, mechanical rooms, seawater systems, weather stations and other equipment as required. Reports unauthorized vehicle movements, boat activities, trespass, and other similar activities. Helps visitors and guests during after hours, weekends and holiday periods. Communicates facilities and utility repair needs via reports and laboratory problems to appropriate research staff. Periodically communicates when appropriate to local emergency agencies, i.e., sheriff, constable, police, parks and wildlife, EMS, and fire dept. Provides incident reports to University police at UT Austin as required.

Licenses: Class "C" Operator's Driver's License. Applicant selected must provide a current three year Driving Record from the current state of residence. If not currently a Texas resident, must obtain a Texas Driver's License within 30 days after entering Texas as a new resident.

Required qualifications

High school graduation or GED. Stable work history. Experience as a guard or police officer. Licenses : Class "C" Operator's Driver's License. Applicant selected must provide a current three year Driving Record from the current state of residence. If not currently a Texas resident, must obtain a Texas Driver's License within 30 days after entering Texas as a new resident. All candidates must be able to communicate clearly both orally and in writing and have knowledge of computers for daily objective/detailed report. Must be able to stand or walk several hours each day and able to work in all weather conditions. All applicants will need to be able to work Holidays, nights, weekends, and days when scheduled. Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

All applicants must be able to pass a thorough background investigation from UT Austin Police Department. Any credited community college a plus, involving police practices, in addition, three years experience as a guard, watchman or police officer. Must be able to provide a stable work history with references provided. Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
