Purpose

Perform work on research project on mechanisms of noncoding RNA function in Drosophila.

Essential Functions

Perform specific experiments with supervision, using techniques of biochemistry, molecular biology, genetics, microscopy. Conduct fly stock construction with confirmation by PCR assays. Perform expression of recombinant proteins in E. coli and other expression systems. Conduct dissection and fixation of Drosophila ovaries and detection of proteins by immunofluorescence. Perform screening existing mutant collections for defects in noncoding RNA function.

Marginal/Incidental functions

Other tasks as needed to contribute to the efficient and effective functioning of a research laboratory.

Required qualifications

Master's degree in biochemistry, molecular biology, genetics or closely related field and no experience, or bachelor's degree in biochemistry, molecular biology, genetics or closely related field and two years of related experience. Familiarity with engineering and/or scientific equipment used in a research laboratory. Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills. Outstanding organizational and time-management skills. Demonstrated critical thinking skills and excellent attention to detail. Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with Drosophila genetics and confocal microscopy. The ability to work well with a culturally diverse group of faculty, staff, and students.
