This position will lead the Dell Medical School research and analytics team, responsible for developing the pipeline of prospective major and principal gift donors for all Dell Medical School initiatives. This position broadly supports the dynamic mission of the Dell Medical School which is to revolutionize how people get and stay healthy.

Purpose

Raise philanthropic support from major gift donors (100,000+ dollars) and principal gift donors (1,000,000+ dollars). Lead philanthropy for the Department of Oncology and Department of Internal Medicine. Portfolio also includes cancer-related philanthropy opportunities in other Dell Med departments.

Essential Functions

Build and carry an active portfolio of 30-50 prospective donors with minimum capacity of 100,000 dollars. Engage in identification, qualification, strategy, relationship building and closing of major and principal gifts within 36 months of start date. Consistently produce 5-10 million dollars per year after Year 3. Maintain current strategies and records in VIP and associated databases. Participate in proposal preparation, strategy development, and stewardship as required for donors in the portfolio. 80 percent of portfolio activity will be dedicated to the Oncology Department, the Department of Internal Medicine, and other assigned specialties, with the balance for qualification of prospective donors for all of Dell Med. Manage the prospect analytics and research team and develop and implement systems that support pipeline development. This includes supervision of 2 FTEs, one who focuses on prospect research and the other whose focus is prospect analytics. Oversee Dell Med stewardship of 50 million dollar donor LIVESTRONG Foundation, including regular meetings with LIVESTRONG, preparation of regular reports and tracking partnership milestones. Serve as Development Office liaison to the leadership of the Department of Oncology, LIVESTRONG Cancer Institutes, the Department of Internal Medicine and those UT Austin colleges/schools and University Development which may wish to collaborate on relationship-building and proposal development in the cancer space.

Required qualifications

Bachelor's degree and ten years of direct fundraising and fundraising management experience. Success in creating and executing a strategic development plan for solicitating and securing major and principal gifts from donors. Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills. Proven and measureable track record of successful face-to-tace interactions with prospective donors. Proven abilities in managing and stewarding key external partnerships. Experience supporting senior administrators, faculty, and fellow gift officers. Experience in creating a portfolio from scratch and managing a portfolio of at least 50-75 donors. Demonstrated success in portfolio management, prospect qualification, analytics, and research. Experience in establishing strategies for identifying and qualifying major/principal gift donors. Experience using a moves management prospect system. Proficient in MS Word, Powerpoint, and Excel. Experience in project management. Demonstrated ability to think strategically and creatively, work well under pressure, and manage details of several concurrent projects. Proven project management skills. Strong written and verbal skills. Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in fundraising for medicine, cancer, science, health care. Passion for healthcare. Experience in donor proposal or grant-writing. Experience with VIP database and knowledge of prospecting tools and reports within the VIP system or other prospective donor relations systems, e.g. Raiser's Edge, Sales Force, etc. Problem solver. Proven self-starter.
