Additional Information

Purpose

To provide skills to assist the production, supply, service and cashier functions of a food service unit.

Essential Functions

Responsible for assisting in the preparation and serving of food and with ordering food supplies and planning menus. Supervise the arrangement of foods on the cafeteria counter and serving of students and faculty to ensure proper attention and correct portions. Assist with ordering food supplies utilizing the availability of local, seasonal foods, and checking deliveries. Assist in food production, recipe development, and menu planning when required. Inspect food for flavor, seasoning and temperature. Inspect work area for cleanliness and proper sanitation practices.

Required qualifications

Demonstration of the competencies: Motivating others, Planning work for others, Managing conflict, Managing and measuring work, Managing diversity and Complying with policies and procedures at The University of Texas at Austin, typically acquired by one year of experience as supervisor of a food service unit. Use of standard and special equipment used by the food service unit and the university's Transition to Management Certificate (or equivalent). Licenses: Food Handler's Registration Certificate. Excellent computer skills. Able to use web-based programs like nutri-kids,use of proper cash handling and assist with the budget. Working with partners such as sustainable foods, vendors and college students. Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

Two years minimum experience as a supervisor of a food service unit at a University or school setting.
