Purpose

Responsible for assisting the Sous Chef in the planning and execution of daily food production serving breakfast, lunch and dinner for 3ooo+ customers.

Essential Functions

1) Assists in preparation of all types of food items for breakfast, lunch and dinner, while following recipes. Works as a team player in a high volume establishment. 2) Assists in cleaning the whole kitchen area, kitchen equipment, refrigerators, freezers, and storage area. 3) Advises supervisor of kitchen equipment repair or replacement. 4) Oversees food display and garnish on all serving lines. 5) Properly utilizes, stores, and labels cooked food and food items. 6) Checks computer printout for menu amounts and recipes. Reports any discrepancies to supervisor. Submits food usage report to supervisor.

Work as a team member in a diverse environment, encourage and promote diversity. Other related functions as assigned.

Required qualifications

One year of experience in institutional or commercial cooking. Ability to operate volume cooking equipment and machinery. Ability to read and understand computer generated standardized recipes. Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

High school graduation or GED. A culinary degree. Over 2 years of experience as a cook in a commercial cooking establishment. Over 2 years of experience working with computerized recipes. Over 2 years of experience operating volume cooking equipment. Experience in preparing breakfast and lunch menus in a fast paced team oriented environment. Demonstrated excellent interpersonal communication skills. Professional demeanor. Ability to multi task and work with little supervision. Demonstrated ability to receive, respond, and follow through with written and oral University and Division of Housing and Food Service policies, procedures and work related instructions from supervisors, customers, and co-worker. Have and maintain a current ServSafe Certificate or current Travis County Food Handlers Card.
